Tom Cobb has worked hard to add the NGSL, NAWL, BSL and TSL to one of the most useful vocabulary analysis tools of the past 20 years, Vocabprofile. Listed under the VP Compleat section of the VocabProfile pages , there are three combinations:
NGSL plus NAWL
NGSL plus TSL
NGSL plus BSL
The first NGSL/NAWL combination works in the same way as the original GSL/AWL Vocab Profile and allows you to compare coverage figures for NGSL/NAWL against the GSL/AWL as well as several other well-known lists. The NGSL usually provides about 92% coverage for most general English texts and the NGSL/NAWL combination about 92% for academic texts and lectures.
The second combination, NGSL/TSL allows you to figure out coverage figures for TOEIC reading and listening materials. Within our TOEIC corpus, the coverage is usually about 99% after accounting for proper nouns.
The third combination, NGSL/BSL allows you to figure out coverage figures for general business English reading and listening materials. Within our business English corpus, the coverage is usually about 97% after accounting for proper nouns.
A HUGE thanks to Tom both for his hard work to get this up as well as to his tremendous contributions to our field both through ALL of the great online tools he's developed as well as his tireless work as a teacher, researcher and presenter!
